Food

‘When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself’. Tecumseh

I love food, the flavour it brings to the mouth, the lingering taste of a good dish and the thought of putting different ingredients together to make a great dish. Growing up with my parents and sibling, I hated cooking but watched the process and my mum banged everything together to make a great plate of bitter leaf soup with pounded yam on the side.

Today, as a mother I have to feed my family and so the stress of banging everything together to form a great dish falls on me. Sometimes though I am tempted to go out for meals or get the odd take out. When I go out though I must ring the restaurants ahead and inform them of my food allergies, so I don’t get ill.

A lot of people today suffer from food allergies, nuts, dairy, gluten to name a few. As a manufacturer myself I must put all my ingredients on my food label to inform the person that picks my product in the market if they are allergic to the combo.

I was treated to a birthday dinner a few months ago at the Hilton in London by my daughter, all the food looked great and I bet tasted great, but I was selective in what I had because I did not want to end up being unwell.

My choice of salmon and asparagus went down well with orange juice as I do not drink, and I would recommend it.

Dear Yemi, sometimes friends think you are difficult because you do not eat when you visit them due to the food allergies, so they stopped inviting you over, whatever it is life.

‘Our deep respect for the land and its harvest is the legacy of generations of farmers who put food on our tables, preserved our landscape, and inspired us with a powerful work ethic’. James H. Douglas, Jr.

‘The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them’. Romans 14:3
